A useful idea

Why spacing helps ideas stick

Learning is strengthened when we return to an idea after some time has passed.

The effort of bringing it back helps reveal what we can explain and what still needs work.

That makes recall part of understanding, not just a final test.

The spacing effect

A short, source-grounded brief prepares the idea for explanation practice.

Why it works Returning after a gap makes recall effortful and shows what still needs strengthening.

How SkillPiece works

From a useful passage to an explanation you can make your own.

SkillPiece keeps the source close while moving you from reading into active explanation, one idea at a time.

01

Capture

Select something meaningful on a web page and choose Add to SkillPiece. Nothing is saved from the selection until you press it.

02

Understand

SkillPiece prepares a concise, source-grounded brief and the points a strong explanation should include.

03

Explain

Answer in your own words without reopening the source. Feedback shows what you covered and what to strengthen.

04

Return

SkillPiece quietly brings the idea back when practice is useful, without streaks or manufactured urgency.

Practise explanation

Recognition feels familiar. Explanation shows what is really there.

SkillPiece asks you to reconstruct an idea in your own words, then gives grounded feedback on the explanation you made.

  • Open recallStart from the question, not a list of choices.
  • Specific feedbackSee what your explanation covered and what was missing.
  • Calm schedulingReturn to the right idea without turning learning into a dashboard.
